A company is more than its name. Let me share my story. Back in late 1980's I purchased my first domain name. I knew that somehow, sometime the World Wide Web would evolve into something beyond our imagination. And, it did with exponential growth.
My father was a visionary and a hard working man. When I was born, my parents had little money, but they had faith and hope for a better future. We lived in a small two room lake cottage on a dirt road 30 miles from the nearest paved road. My father worked in a paper mill and had to journey several hours each way to his job. My mom taught us about honesty, persistence and passion. So it happened one day that a tornado torn our humble home apart while I, my sisters, infant brother and mom huddle together in the basement. A home my parents worked so hard to create was destroyed in minutes.
Now, with everything gone my parents decided to take a daring chance. They took what belongings could fit in our old Studebaker car, put us four kids into the back seat and escaped to California. We drove until the car until it gave out. Stranded at a rest area into Southern Illinois, we begged for food and found people loving and generous. My parents took their last savings to buy another used car and we continue forward.
California was nicer. Our hardships now had glamour. We found an abandoned house in the path of the new Hollywood 101 Freeway. Our home was in a deserted row of houses. My father got a job in a grocery store. The angels must have been looking after us. With some luck, my father was able to go to UCLA and took a training program in computers. This was in the mid 1950's.
To make a long story short, my parents somehow managed to send us kids to private schools. We got a good education, graduated from college; and through the years I obtained many degrees and certificates. As a visionary, entrepreneur and adventurer I took the road seldom traveled. Had many good adventures. Had great mentors. Throughout the years my entrepreneurial spirit has been alive accumulating a wealth of knowledge with more than 35 years experience in business ownership and corporate management.
If you ask what I learned most about business and life... it is to have both dreams and persistence. Dreams keep our hopes and faith alive. Most things are easy to start, but once they are started it takes work, persistence to keep them going.
